It is that time of the season now, the time for giving and and sharing - the holiday spirit.  We usually go shopping and buy gifts for our loved ones.  This made me think, is exchanging gifts at either work or schools a good idea? My girlfriend lives in a dorm at UC Riverside and they have to pick a random person from a lottery and buy a gift for that person. Then a week before Christmas, they all would exchange it.  To me this is stupid. It is not only a burden to go out of your way to buy a gift for a person, but a random person who by the way you could totally despise, is really something pretty dumb. Mandatory gift exchange doesn't serve any purpose beside to show strangers that you do care - which you don't. Holiday spirits is overrated. People only care about themselves and how much they get out of Christmas or any other holiday.

So if you ever come across a mandatory gift exchange anywhere, you should just buy that person a gift card to Jack in the Box or McDonald..

As by now, I am sure everyone and their mama must have heard about James Kim from Cnet.com.  I am going to make this brief about what I think about his death.  I believe what he did was right - to go out and find help.  In hindsight, everyone says that if you get stranded, it is more important and best to stay in one spot. You should not go an wonder around if you do not know where you are going.  That being said, what is a man suppose to do? Just sit inside of the car and wait for help? I know most of you would say, "YES, that is what you are suppose to do". However, being a man, the dominant species, it is our duty to protect our loved ones and to seek help when unfortunate circumstances arise. Yes, he did make the wrong move to leave and to seek help. But it is his duty, the duty of being a man, to go out to the wilderness and try to find help.

RIP James Kim, you are truly a man among men.

Everyday I see people driving nice cars and having nice things, however, they live in "OK" houses - Houses that does not reflect what these individuals proceeds to reflect to us.  They just show us glamorous things on the outside, however, they are not really that rich and well off. Consequently, there are also people who live in fabulous estates but they drive like a bug or a camery.  What does this mean?

Nowadays people are so materialistic that they want and need everything.  Cell phones, computers, TV's, so on, and so on. The questions then comes to mind is that, do we live over our means? I don't know about you, but I love having new toys and gadgets, however, if i am not capable to pay of these miscellaneous items, then I would never buy them.  That is the smart isn't it? When I walk around the malls, I see teenagers wearing clothes that are either to skanky (which I dont see a problem of), or something all decked out.  Meaning, they wears things that are so expensive, one would wonder what is it that they do buy all those things. I see a lot of people having much materialistic wealth but yet maintain a low net worth because their expenditures are too high.

I guess, these are all very different types of outlooks on financial perspectives and lifestyles. The question they arise, which type of lifestyle are you?  For me, I would rather drive a bucket and wear rags to work everyday, and then come home to my castle.  People might say that is stupid. But that is me.

NYC Police pump 50 rounds into car of unarmed men:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/N/NY_POLICE_SHOOTING_BAOL-?SITE=NYNYP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

This story stuck out to me like a sore thumb.  Sean Bell was set to get married the next day and was having a
bachelor party at a local strip club at the night of the shooting. Although it is still unclear what made the police use excessive and deadly force, one thing is for sure, they shouldn't have done it.  I mean, how can you justify shooting an unarmed men 50 times? It doesn't matter if he was resisting arrest or anything, an action like that is just overkill and unwarranted.

Police also fired at Bell's two friends who were also at the scene, luckily they were not killed,
"The survivors were Joseph Guzman, 31, who was shot at least 11 times, and Trent Benefield, 23, who was hit three times. Guzman was in critical condition, and Benefield in stable condition". I mean, the police are not stupid, there has to be some sort of explanation as to why they shot those people, however, shooting to subdue a person is very much different than shooting to the point of decapitation.

What is also sad is that Bell was set to get married the next day; I wonder how his finance felt after she heard the news.  What a sad thing to encounter, to what would of been the best days of her life. I dont know what is going to happen to the police officers, but this is truly a case of excessive force and
unloading 50 rounds on an unarmed person is going to be hard to justify.

Holiday Season:

As Christmas is soon approaching, and the economy is growing, people are spending more this holiday season then in the previous years.  However, there are still people spending more than they make, is this practical?  People are so quick to buy things that they believe they must buy because it is a "bargain" and if they don't act quick, they might pass out on a great deal. I for one only spend a minimal amount of money (if any) in the holiday season due to the fact that (1) i am broke (2) i hate to go shopping (3) it is better to receive then to give.

This past weekend, I took the bart with my family and headed over to San Francisco to check out the malls and union square.  A side note - there are a lot of crazy people which also takes the bart, and I shall never use the bart again.  Ok, now, as we arrived in San Francisco, I immediately realized that I was in for a long day.  There are so many people walking around, it is ridiculous. Everything was so crowded and I can hardly even move.  All the seats were taking at the food court so we didn't even bother buying food to eat.  Then we went to this store called Bloomingdale, and I must say, I have never seen stuff so expensive in my life.  I saw a T-shirt which cost $300.00, a jacket which cost $1200, and so on.  I abruptly left the establishment. All in all, I really love the holiday season, i just hate the crazy people running around looking for bargains to buy and hogging up all the space in the malls.

the end
